Short answer

MiniMax H3 is not released under Apache 2.0 or MIT. Its Community License limits use to an Applicable Territory that excludes the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Republic of Korea unless separate authorization is obtained. It also adds conditions for commercial products, hosted services, redistribution, safety controls, and AI disclosure. Read the current license itself before deployment.

01

This is a territorial community license

The license defines an Applicable Territory as worldwide except for four Excluded Territories: the European Union, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, and the United States of America. Its grant of rights is expressly limited to the Applicable Territory. It invites parties in excluded locations to contact MiniMax for a separate license.

02

Terms that affect a deployment decision

AreaLicense text says
Commercial scalePrior written authorization above $20 million annual product or service revenue
Commercial UIProminently display “MiniMax H3”
RedistributionPass on the license, mark modified files, and include the specified NOTICE
Hosted serviceBind users to protective terms and operate safeguards and a reporting mechanism
Model improvementDo not use H3 works or outputs to improve another AI model outside defined H3 derivatives
Public outputClearly and prominently disclose AI-generated public content
03

Outputs and responsibility

MiniMax says it claims no rights over generated outputs. That sentence does not promise that an output is copyrightable, non-infringing, safe to publish, or clear of publicity and privacy rights. The license places responsibility for outputs and subsequent use on the user.

  • Keep the source and rights status of every reference asset.
  • Add an AI-generation disclosure to public output.
  • Review faces, voices, trademarks, and copyrighted material before distribution.
  • Maintain the safeguards and complaint path required for a user-facing service.
04

What to verify before launch

The license can be updated, and legal interpretation depends on the facts of a deployment. Use this page as an issue checklist, then have qualified counsel review the current license and product design.

  • Where the model will run and where users will access it.
  • Whether a separate MiniMax authorization is required.
  • Which entity and product revenue the commercial threshold applies to.
  • How license terms and use restrictions flow to customers and users.
  • How modifications, NOTICE files, branding, moderation, and disclosures will be handled.
